1 : The Teaser

This poster does pretty much everything perfect of a teaser poster and more. It hints at a larger play, with important information centred in its marketing (Date and Company). With no title placed within its design, the studio must have felt enough strength in the company name and the comic book route, with the sanctum glass placing a tease of something much larger – what is the character looking at? With effective use of shadows, and foregrounding, this poster design hints at perhaps something darker in its context. Beautiful poster. 4/5

2 : Character Posters (United Kingdom)

Within these posters the mystical plains of the films narrative are thrust into the marketing campaign, highlighting gravity defining moments befalling our principle characters.

Each poster features a character off centre, in a pose that is routed in their development, with Mikkelson looking truly threatening as the films villain Kaecillius. All in all these posters do a brilliant job at reflecting the films alternative realm idea, while also adding to the mysticism that the film is placing heavily into its narrative. They look interesting, exciting and unique and that really does sum up the film for me. 4/5

3 : The Theatrical Poster

In what will most likely form the design of the home release packaging, Cumberbatch is shown in full character applying the films main component – magic. This emphasis really sets the film apart from the previous 13 MCU films, and hints at the narrative component that is entering the filmic fray.

With the sanctum glass still a component on the design, the importance of that location is presented to the onlooker and the idea of seeing Strange through his hand hints at the alternative realities that will be shown within the film. Prior to the films release, these two components – and how they will play in the film – were not known to the majority of the films potential customers. As such this poster is not only selling the film, its character and lead actor to audiences brilliantly, but also presenting a different narrative scope from those that have come before. 4.5/5
